Showtime showcased lesbian lifestyles for six seasons with its sexy drama 'The L Word,' and now the channel is hoping to create new buzz with a reality series called 'The Real L Word' -- the series focuses on a group of women living in West Hollywood.
Produced by Illene Chaiken, who created 'The L Word,' this latest entry into gay programming features Nikki and Jill, an engaged lesbian couple; Tracy, a newly out woman working as a film and television executive; Whitney, a special effects artist by day and edgy chick by night; Mikey, a tattooed motorcycle lover; and Rose, a sexy Latina that provided the inspiration for 'The L Word' character Papi.
"We love to tell authentic stories about complex characters and feel like this is an area that has yet to be explored in reality television," producer Jane Lipsitz said.
Chaiken had originally planned to spinoff 'The L Word' with the scripted series 'The Farm,' but Showtime decided not to air the show, which was set to star 'The L Word' star Leisha Hailey.
Showtime describes this new series as "a rare, fly-on-the-wall look into the lives of attractive and successful L.A. lesbians." Think 'Real Housewives' meets 'Queer Eye.' Take a look for yourself, as the trailer for 'The Real World' has hit the web.
'The Real L Word' premieres on Showtime June 20.
