SHOWTIME has renewed HOUSE OF LIES for a fifth season to air in 2016 with 10 episodes, it was announced today by Gary Levine, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Showtime Networks Inc.
HOUSE OF LIES stars Don Cheadle in his three-time Emmy®-nominated and Golden Globe®-winning performance as Marty Kaan. Cheadle has gone three for three, honored with both Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominations for the past three consecutive years - every year that he has been eligible. Produced by SHOWTIME, the series also stars Kristen Bell (Frozen, Veronica Mars) who plays his razor-sharp partner, along with Emmy winner Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation), Josh Lawson (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues), Donis Leonard Jr. (Criminal Minds) and Emmy winner Glynn Turman (In Treatment).
"When you have a gifted acting ensemble led by Don Cheadle and smart, acerbic writing led by showrunner Matthew Carnahan you expect something special, and HOUSE OF LIES delivers for us each season," said Levine.
In its fourth season, Marty's brief stint in white collar prison left the firm in shambles and a pregnant Jeannie (Bell) in charge of Clyde (Schwartz), Doug (Lawson), and a tainted Kaan & Associates. Client flight decimated the bottom line, but Marty returned on the scene with a singular focus: winning, at any and all cost. His fellow cellmate, billionaire Ellis Hightower (guest star Demetri Martin), became his first big post-incarceration client, and a tough investor (guest star Mary McCormack) swooped in to the rescue. But the white knights came armed with strings and major complications. Meanwhile, Clyde and Doug fell uncomfortably in bed - literally and figuratively - with app producer Kelsey (guest star Valorie Curry). On the home front, Marty's social activist-talk show host brother Malcolm (guest star Larenz Tate) was back home stirring the pot while Jeremiah (Turman) kept the Kaan family in line. But no amount of sage advice from dad could help Marty balance a struggling company, demanding clients, and a most unexpected pregnancy that threw a grenade in his already convoluted life. The season wrapped up answering some burning questions, as Marty fought to save Kaan & Associates from the brink and from Denna Altshuler's (McCormack) death grip while Jeannie was giving birth to their baby. Meanwhile, Clyde (Schwartz) and Doug's (Lawson) billionaire venture going bust had an unexpected upside, while Marty's son Roscoe (Leonard Jr.) atoned for his illegal side business. From the hit tell-all book House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Tell You the Time by Martin Kihn, HOUSE OF LIES is created and executive produced by Matthew Carnahan. Jessika Borsiczky, Don Cheadle and David Walpert served as executive producers for the series' fourth season.
