Deadline broke the news that Pauly Shore's documentary PAULY SHORE STANDS ALONE was acquired by Showtime - the film will premiere on December 4th. Directed by Shore, the film chronicles his comedy tour across the midwest as he deals with his ailing mother, legendary Comedy Store owner Mitzi Shore. The film will be also premiering at the Woodstock Film Festival in October.
While not his directorial debut, PAULY SHORE STANDS ALONE marks a pivotal turning point in Shore's career, as the vérité-style film captures a more serious facet of the comedian's life. Shore rose to fame in the '90s with his "Weasel" surfer dude persona, and had box office hits with ENCINO MAN and SON IN LAW, but returns to his standup roots with the film and also proves himself to be a venerable filmmaking presence.
Shore tells Deadline, "Down to my core of who I am, I'm a stand-up comic. A lot of comics go through personal things and have to put on a smile. I'm always doing shtick - I'm a comic, obviously. I wanted to show a side of me that wasn't doing any shtick, and this was the first time I let that shtick down."
In addition to the film, there are many other exciting developments in the world of Pauly Shore. He recently announced the simultaneous launch of his new website - www.PaulyShore.com - as well as his podcast, "Pauly Shore's Interested," on September 10th. Each episode of "Interested" involves Shore interviewing a notable personality while another provides commentary on the interview. Episode one kicked off this Wednesday at 6am EST, with a new episode to follow weekly, and is featured on the iTunes homepage. The premiere episode featured Shore's interview with screenwriter/actor/comedian Rick Overton and commentary by Ed Begley, Jr. - a Robin Williams tribute episode. Future episodes will feature the likes of Arsenio Hall and Andy Dick. For more info on the podcast, please click here.
