Short Film RACCA to Make World Premiere at the Dominican Film Festival

'RACCA', a short film by Dominique Nieves and Iron Glove Productions, will première at The Dominican Film Festival in New York City July 28th and 29th. 'RACCA' was an underdog film, made in 24 hours with no budget and a skeleton crew, and the message of inclusivity through a style reminiscent of an episode of "Black Mirror" has garnered festival attention.

In an alternate universe, the president has implemented RACCA- Re-assessing All Current Citizens Act. In an effort to revive the country's economy, anyone from a family established in this country for 3 generations or more will be 're-assessed' and 'relocated' to their family's country of origin. Who would you lose if RACCA is enacted?

This film was originally created in response to the repeal of DACA, which in essence asked undocumented immigrants to come forward while promising the ability to work and go to school in the U.S. The repeal would mean those people, who came to the U.S. as children, would be punished for voluntarily coming forward as adults. DACA recipients contribute to the success of our country and are your doctors, teachers, neighbors, and friends. Who would you lose if DACA were repealed? Better yet, who would you lose in the alternate universe of RACCA?

All aspects of the film-making process were completed in 24 hours, as part of the AT&T developer challenge. The budget was exactly $0 and, 8 unique locations with 24 performers and 1 dog were shot in a 12 hour shoot. People were so galvanized by the film's message, they donated their time, their homes, and even their pets to the project.

DFFNY's mission is to promote a new generation of Dominican filmmakers along with established ones. The festival's program will showcase an array of works reflecting the city's diverse population including a large ratio of Latinos from 21 countries.
