Shonda Rhimes may have two separate television series on ABC and a number in the works - but she's apparently still got time to work on an occasional screenplay or two.
The GREY'S ANATOMY scribe's latest venture will be the film WAR CORRESPONDANTS - which takes Rhimes back to her cinematic roots, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Her career launched with CROSSROADS and THE PRINCESS DIARIES 2: ROYAL ENGAGEMENT in the early aughts.
Rhimes will pen the screenplay for the drama, which follows a group of female war corresponddents, for Sony's Columbia Pictures, with Mark Gordon on board to produce. The duo previously worked together on GREY'S and its spin-off PRIVATE PRACTICE.
"Shonda's unparalleled story sense - especially when it comes to stories about women forging their way in traditionally male professions - made this project irresistible," Hannah Minghella, president of production at Columbia Pictures, told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. "Shonda first explored the idea of a story about female war correspondents for television, but over the years, it's become a much bigger story and we're thrilled that she sees a way to do it on the big screen. She has a great take on the material and we have a consummate producer on board with Mark Gordon and believe this will make a terrific feature film."
