Shonda Rhimes is the mastermind behind Scandal, as well as shows such as Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice. And so, if you want to know what to expect for Scandal, Rhimes is the one to ask. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she talked about her plans for the show; however, what she had to say may not be good news for fans. Rhimes already knows when the series will end and it's not going to be as long as fans hope.
When asked if Fitz's relection will stretch out the structure of the show in order to fill four more years in office, Rhimes responded, "I'm not worried about that at all. I've already decided when Scandal is ending. I think there's only so much Scandal you can tell satisfactorily. The Fitz-Liv thing can only be told so long and in such a way. It's not a 10-season or eight-season show. I've already decided how long that is and what that's going to be. I'm not really worried about that."

Her response raises the question: does that mean the end of Fitz's term will be the end of the series? Rhimes had an answer for that as well, though she didn't divulge to much. She stated, "It would be interesting. But I've given myself a parameter of what that is, and whether or not that means we end up deciding to stretch or shrink his presidency based on that remains to be seen."
Season 4 of Scandal premieres Thursday, Sept. 25, at 9:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
