Discovery Channel and Georgia Aquarium are once again teaming up to provide the ultimate shark experience for fans: a live "fish-eye" view of a variety of sharks living in the world's largest indoor aquatic habitat, Ocean Voyager - built by the Home Depot. Discovery Channel's SharkWeek.com will feature Shark Cam, a state-of-the-art high-definition underwater camera located inside Georgia Aquarium's shark-filled habitat, giving people an immersive 360-degree panoramic, live-streaming experience complete with social conversation. The Shark Cam will begin "making waves" July 14 and will continue to stream live footage through Discovery Channel's Shark Week (July 31 - August 6).
Shark Cam will serve up a non-stop stream of shark-filled footage, including views of the world's largest shark - the whale shark - as well as sand tiger, black tip, wobbegong, sandbar and zebra sharks. Shark Cam will also be featured on USTREAM's homepage throughout July to engage with new audiences more teeth in their online video.
Shark "fin-atics" looking to immerse themselves in the experience can submit questions to Georgia Aquarium's renowned shark experts online, and viewers will become part of the programming as they talk with experts in real-time from within the Ocean Voyager exhibit. Additional shark videos, including a behind-the-scenes view of shark feeding sessions, will be featured on Discovery Channel's Shark Week fansite. Shark Week fans can also connect with other shark-lovers through the Shark Week Facebook page and on Twitter by following @SharkWeek and adding #SharkCam to their Tweets.
To commemorate Shark Week, Georgia Aquarium will be hosting special shark-themed events all week. For those who want an even closer encounter with these denizens of the deep, Georgia Aquarium's Dive Immersion Program will offer a special version of its popular swim and dive program, Journey with Gentle Giants. The program will focus on shark identification featuring a special "Certification of Shark Conservation Education" as a permanent reminder of their experience with the majestic and misunderstood animals.
