The four plays in the series were captured in 2010 from the prestigious and internationally renowned Globe Theatre in London- Shakespeare's theatrical London home. Each performance will also include a special 20-minute behind-the-scenes feature, providing insights into the working of the Globe today and a study of each production. Featuring interviews with the actors and creative team involved, these extra features bring the world of Shakespeare's Globe and the plays in the series to life for audiences.
In Henry IV Part 2, Hotspur is dead and Prince Hal has proved his mettle on the battlefield, but Henry IV lies dying and the rebels, though scattered, show no sign of declaring their allegiance to the Crown. Even Falstaff is forced out of the taverns to raise a scratch militia in the country. But will his attachment to the rising Hal be rewarded with promotion and the life of ease he feels sure he deserves? At least the equal of Part 1, Henry IV Part 2 includes some of the greatest moments in Shakespeare: the deathbed scene of the old King, when Hal contemplates the crown; the reunion of Falstaff with his old boon companion, Justice Shallow; and Hal's devastating rejection of Falstaff himself. From the start it has been an extremely popular play both with the public and the critics with
Roger Allam winning the 2011Olivier Award for Best Actor for his role as Sir John Falstaff. The cast also includes Oliver Cotton as King Henry IV and
Jamie Parker as Prince Hal. The creative team includes Dominic Dromgoole (Director),
Jonathan Fensom (Designer),
Claire van Kampen (Composer and Musical Director), Siân Williams (Choreographer) and Philip D'orleans (Fight Director).
Following Henry IV Part 2, the Shakespeare's Globe London Cinema Series concludes with Henry VIII on Thursday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. The Merry Wives of Windsor was shown on June 27 and Henry IV Part 1 was shown on August 1 at 6:30pm.
Shakespeare's Globe London Cinema Series will be broadcast in more than 275 movie theaters across the country through NCM's exclusive Digital Broadcast Network.
The Globe Theatre is known as Shakespeare's theatrical London home. The original open-roof theater, made of wood-and-thatch was built in 1599 by Shakespeare's playing company and was destroyed by fire in 1613. American actor and director,
Sam Wanamaker, worked tirelessly to raise funds for the theater's reconstruction. His efforts paid off and a modern reconstruction of The Globe opened in 1997 approximately 200 yards from the site of the original theater.
