According to The Huffington Post, Seth MacFarlane's upcoming comedy remake of THE FLINTSTONES has been put on hold due to the animator's busy schedule. The project, to be executive produced by MacFarlane, Dan Palladino and Kara Vallo, will now reportedly be postponed until 2013.
In 2011, Fox had announced it would produce the remake as a straight to series project after MacFarlane acquired the rights to the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon. THE FLINTSTONES aired on ABC from 1960 - 1966 and spawned several spinoffs and animated specials including 2001's "The Flintstones: On The Rocks."
MacFarlane said in a recent statement, “The very first cartoon character I drew at age two was Fred Flintstone. So it's appropriate that events have come full circle, allowing me to produce the newest incarnation of this great franchise. Plus, I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat, stupid guy with a wife who's too good for him."
MacFarlane is best known for his Fox animated series "Family Guy," "American Dad" and "The Cleveland Show." His latest miniseries is based on Carl Sagan's "Cosmos."
