The producers of "Crazy Rich Asians" plan to shoot the film's sequel in China, according to Variety.
"China Rich Girlfriend" plans to shoot in Shanghai, producer John Penotti announced Monday in Los Angeles.
The sequel is an adaptation of novelist Kevin Kwan's second book in the "Asians" series. It is set two years after "Crazy Rich Asians."
The first film was released in NORTH AMERICA in August and in most Asian territories in September and October. It has grossed $232 million worldwide.
Kwan's original book focused on decadent behavior by the super-rich, and had the heroine's father languishing in a Chinese prison. The Jon M. Chu-directed film focused more on the romance and omitted the father character. Chu is expected to direct the sequel.
