Deadline reports that NBC has picked up a comedy series starring Broadway vet Sean Hayes and Victor Fresco titled SEAN SAVES THE WORLD. The network has also ordered the new drama 'Believe' from J.J. Abrams. The site reported earlier today that NBC had also greenlit Jason Katims' comedy 'About a Boy.'
About SEAN SAVES THE WORLD:
Sean (Sean Hayes, "Will & Grace") is a divorced gay dad who juggles a lot - his successful but demanding career, offbeat employees, pushy mom Lorna (Linda Lavin, "Alice"), and weekends with his teenage daughter, Ellie (Sami Isler). So when his 14-year-old bundle of joy moves in full-time, it's a whole new world. Never one to do anything halfway, Sean's intent on being the best dad ever, so he loads up on parenting how-to books and plans Pinterest-worthy family dinners. But it seems his company's new owner has decided Sean and his team should work longer hours, putting a damper on his homemaking plans and throwing a kink in Sean's perfectly constructed work/life balance. Ellie, a normal girl who wants to hang with her friends and eat on the run, sees this development as a plus. She loves her dad, but he's clearly going overboard. From keeping his boss happy, his employees motivated and enduring his mother's tactless "advice" to raising a smart, grounded and healthy kid, it's going to be a growing experience, to say the least. But if anyone can handle it all, it's Sean. Thomas Lennon ("Reno 911"), Lindsay Sloane ("Weeds") and Echo Kellum ("Ben and Kate") also star. From executive producers Hayes ("Hot in Cleveland," "Grimm") and Todd Milliner ("Hot in Cleveland," "Grimm"), executive producer/director James Burrows ("Friends," "The Big Bang Theory") and writer/producer Victor Fresco ("Go On," "Mad About You"), "Sean Saves the World" is a production of Universal Television and Hazy Mills Productions.
In 2011, Hayes received a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical after making his Broadway debut in the wildly successful "Promises, Promises" alongside Kristin Chenoweth. That same year he won an Emmy Award for hosting the Tony Awards. Previously, Hayes was seen on stage in New York in the New York City Center production of "Damn Yankees" with Jane Krakowski and Cheyenne Jackson. The actor was a guest star in the current season of NBC's Smash.
Hayes, who received critical acclaim for his roles in theater, television and film, quickly gained fame as the sarcastic and hilarious Jack McFarland on NBC's "Will & Grace." In addition to working successfully and simultaneously in theater, film and television, Hayes has also added producing to his repertoire, including NBC's sophomore drama series "Grimm."
He became a household name in 1998, when he landed the coveted role of Jack on "Will & Grace." His portrayal garnered him an Emmy Award (along with six nominations) four Screen Actors Guild Awards and received seven Golden Globe nominations. Hayes' other notable television projects include well received guest roles on "Scrubs," "30 Rock" and "Parks and Recreation" as well as "Martin & Lewis" a television film that starred Sean as Jerry Lewis for which he earned a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination.
This past spring, Hayes starred as Larry in the Farrelly brothers' popular comedy reboot, "The Three Stooges." He will soon be seen in the action comedy "Hit and Run" alongside Dax Shepard, Kristen Bell, Kristin Chenoweth and Bradley Cooper. He will also lend his voice to the "Monsters Inc." prequel "Monsters University" in 2013. Previous film credits include "The Bucket List" opposite Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss," "Pieces of April," The Voice of Mr. Fish in "The Cat in the Hat," "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton," "Igor," "Soul Men" and The Voice of Mr. Tinkles in the box-office hit "Cats and Dogs."
