The first Three Stooges reboot was released in 2012 from the Farrelly Brothers. The film was made for a budget of $30 million and earned over $54 million at the box office. The next go-around will feature a "big action star" to boost theater attendance even more and perhaps attract a bigger international audience.Said C3's Earl Benjamin, "We're excited to be moving forward with The Exchange and Grand Peaks on the next Three Stooges movie. With Sean, Chris and Will back as our Stooges and Cameron writing, this next film will be a truly unique blend of fast paced action with the hilarious mayhem of The Three Stooges."
"The Three Stooges is an incredibly powerful brand, I am looking forward to give to the independent distributors the opportunity to participate in this commercial phenomenon," said O'Shea from The Exchange.
The original stogges, Moe Howard, Shemp Howard and Larry Fine, entertained audiences with their physical comedy and pies in the face from the 1930s through the 1950s. In the 2012 film, the trio attempted to save their childhood home but stumble upon a murder plot which leads them to starring roles in a reality TV show.
The star studded cast also included Larry David, Sofia Vergara, Jane Lynch, Jennifer Hudson, Stephen Collins, Craig Bierko, Kirby Heyborne, Kate Upton, and Carly Craig.
