Variety reports that Scarlett Johansson will make her directorial debut in the upcoming big screen has adaptation of Truman Capote's SUMMER CROSSING. According to the report, the Capote's novel would never have been published were it not for a janitor in his building who discovered it in a trash heap.

The story centers on "a 17-year-old Debutant who decides to pursue romance with a Jewish valet parking attendant instead of traveling through Paris during a 1945 summer heat wave in New York."

Peter D. Graves will executive produce the project, scheduled to get underway in early 2014.

Johansson appeared in the role of Maggie in the recent Broadway revival of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. She starred as Catherine in the 2010 Broadway revival of A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE, for which she was awarded a Tony. Her film credits include "The Horse Whisperer," "Lost in Translation," "Girl with a Pearl Earring," "The Black Dahlia," "The Other Boleyn Girl" and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona." She was most recently seen on the big screen in last year's "We Bought a Zoo" and is currently filming Jon Favreau's 'Chef.'
