As first reported on TMZ.com, Ann Curry is in negotiations with NBC to exit her post on the TODAY show. The co-anchor is one year into a three year contract with the network. Sources tell TMZ that NBC may pay Curry as much as $20 million to leave while forbidding her to work at another network for the next two years.
According to the report, NBC is looking to make a fast and smooth transition to a new anchor and hopes to have its new Today show staff in place before the network's coverage of the London Olympics begins. They are hoping to make an announcement late this week or early next week that legal correspondent Savannah Guthrie will take over as the morning show's new anchor.
After serving as a White House correspondent between 2008 and 2011 and as co-anchor of the MSNBC program The Daily Rundown between 2010 and 2011, Guthrie was announced as the co-host of Today's third hour alongside Natalie Morales and Al Roker. She often substitutes as news anchor and main co-host, and appears as the Chief Legal Analyst across all NBC platforms.
