Saturday's back-to-back broadcasts of CBS News 48 Hours encores were the night's #1 and #2 programs with viewers and households, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for August 3, 2013.

48 HOURS: "Desperate Measures" (R) (10:00-11:00 PM) was the night's #1 program with viewers and households. At 10:00 PM, "Desperate Measures" was first in adults 25-54 (1.3/04) - the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news - as well as viewers (4.89m), adults 18-49 (0.8/03) and households (3.5/07).

At 9:00 PM, 48 HOURS: "Live to Tell: The Railroad Killer" (R) (S) (9:00-10:00PM) was first with adults 25-54 (1.1/03), viewers (4.19m), adults 18-49 (0.7/03) and households (3.0/06). 48 HOURS: "Live to Tell: The Railroad Killer" was the night's #2 program in viewers and households behind 10:00 PM's 48 HOURS.

"48 HOURS: "Desperate Measures" featured Peter Van Sant's report on the murders of wealthy couple Dennis and Merna Koula. The Koulas were found shot dead in their LaCrosse, Wis., home by their son, Eric, who went to the house after they failed to answer his calls. Police said it looked like an assassination. The investigation led in several directions, including a tip from a neighbor - a banker - who said he had gotten death threats. A Google Map search for his address actually led to the Koulas' home.

48 HOURS: "Desperate Measures" is produced by Susan Mallie and Marc Goldbaum. George Baluzy and Mead Stone are the producer-editors. Marlon Disla is the editor. Suzanne Allen is the senior coordinating producer. Kate Harrington is the update producer. Anthony Batson is the senior broadcast producer. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer. Maier was killed, Dunn survived and she told her story in "Live to Tell: The Railroad Killer."

48 HOURS: "Live to Tell" is a unique franchise under the 48 Hours umbrella that delivers firsthand accounts of extraordinary people who refuse to give up when facing death. 48 Hours: "Live to Tell: The Railroad Killer" is produced by Lourdes Aguiar and Michael McHugh.
