ESPN today announced that veteran baseball journalist Sam Miller (@SamMillerBP) has joined ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine as a national baseball columnist and feature writer. Miller will cover everything from the biggest trends in the game to the lesser-known intricacies, all through an analytical lens, beginning Oct. 2. He will bring a fresh and exciting voice to ESPN's daily baseball coverage. Miller is a New York Times bestselling author and an accomplished baseball writer and editor.
"Sam has the unique gift of seamlessly weaving together analytics, reporting and thoughtful commentary into a compelling narrative," says Chad Millman, vice president editorial director, domestic digital content. "He makes hardcore baseball fans smarter with his analysis and engages all fans with his storytelling."
Since 2014, Miller has been editor-in-chief of the widely-acclaimed Baseball Prospectus website. He has also covered the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for the Orange County Register as a beat writer.
Said Miller: "So much of what I know and what I love about baseball is thanks to ESPN, which has always been a leader in broadcasting and writing about the sport. It's humbling to join a lineage of journalists that includes so many of my writing heroes."
Miller is the co-author of The Only Rule Is It Has To Work, which documents the season he and co-author Ben Lindbergh used advanced sabermetrics to run the baseball operations for the Sonoma Stompers - an independent minor-league baseball team in California. The book made the New York Times bestseller list.
