STOMP Debuts New Piece On 'Good Morning America' 4/14

STOMP, the international sensation, will debut a new piece on GOOD MORNING AMERICA on Tuesday April 14. STOMP is scheduled to perform in the 8 AM hour.

The piece has never been seen on television anywhere in the world; it features tractor tire inner tubes slung around the performers' waists with bungee cords.

This will mark the second time that GOOD MORNING AMERICA is airing a "first" for STOMP; GMA was the first national American show to feature STOMP before it landed on American shores and became part of pop culture .

Created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, STOMP is currently playing in New York, London's West End, on North American and European tours. It recently played Poland and is on its way to Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to the stage shows, STOMP has been an overwhelming success marked by rave reviews, numerous awards, an Academy Award nomination, four Emmy nominations and one Emmy Award for their acclaimed HBO special Stomp_Out_Loud/">Stomp Out Loud, noteworthy TV appearances ranging from The Academy Awards (produced by Quincy Jones) to Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and a series of award-winning international commercials.

STOMP's international engagements have included Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, South Africa, Israel, Palestine, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Germany, Poland, Bahrain, and The Acropolis in Athens, Greece. STOMP has also made its unique presence known on cuts on Quincy Jones' CD Q's Jook Joint (receiving a Grammy nomination) and in a unique collaboration on the Latin Grammys with the award-winning band Calle 13.

Creators Cresswell and McNicholas directed the IMAX film, Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey, an award-winning celebration of global rhythms that takes viewers on a percussive and musical journey to points including India, Africa, Spain, the US, the UK and Japan. STOMP was also seen in a series of New York City public service announcements, print and outdoor ads encouraging people to STOMP OUT LITTER.

STOMP has become such an identifiable part of popular culture that it has been parodied on Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons, and has been an answer on Jeopardy!

STOMP is the winner of an Olivier Award for Best Choreography (London's Tony Award); an Obie Award; a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatre Experience, and a Special Citation from Best Plays.

The performers "make a rhythm out of anything we can get our hands on that makes a sound," says co-founder/director Luke Cresswell. A unique combination of percussion, movement and visual comedy, STOMP has created its own inimitable, contemporary form of rhythmic expression: both household and industrial objects find new life as musical instruments in the hands of an idiosyncratic band of body percussionists. It is a journey through sound, a celebration of the everyday and a comic interplay of characters wordlessly communicating through dance and drum.

Synchronized stiff-bristle brooms become a sweeping orchestra, eight Zippo lighters flip open and closed to create a fiery fugue; wooden poles thump and clack in a rhythmic explosion. STOMP uses everything but conventional percussion instruments - dustbins, tea chests, radiator hoses, boots, hub caps - to fill the stage with a compelling and unique act that is often imitated but never duplicated.
