NBC received 53 Primetime Emmy Award nominations Thursday morning, tying for the most of any broadcast network.

The announcement was made by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Leading the charge for NBC were "Saturday Night Live" with 17 nominations, including outstanding variety series, and "30 Rock" with 13, including outstanding comedy series. Acting nominations were garnered by Tina Fey (lead actress in a comedy), Alec Baldwin (lead actor in a comedy) and Jane Krakowski (supporting actress in a comedy) from the series that recently ended its incredible seven-season run.

Since 1975, "Saturday Night Live" has now earned 173 total nominations, extending its own Emmy record.

Other NBC highlights include "The Voice," the No. 1-rated Reality Show on television in adults 18-49, receiving a nomination for outstanding reality competition program; "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" as outstanding variety series; Betty White, for host of a reality or reality-competition program, for "Betty White's Off Their Rockers"; Amy Poehler, for lead actress in a comedy for "Parks and Recreation"; and Bill Hader as supporting actor in a comedy series for "Saturday Night Live."

NBC took three of the five nominations in the comedy writing category. Greg Daniels was nominated for "The Office" finale while Tina Fey and Tracey Wigfield were nominated for the "30 Rock" finale, "Last Lunch." Jack Burditt and Robert Carlock were also nominated for the first part of the "30 Rock" finale, "Hogcock!"

Universal Television received an impressive 42 nominations. Vera Farmiga was nominated for lead actress in a drama for her turn as Norma Bates in the A&E series "Bates Motel."

For NBC International, "Downton Abbey" received 12 nominations, including for best drama series and four acting nominations: Hugh Bonneville (lead actor), Michelle Dockery (lead actress), Jim Carter (supporting actor) and Maggie Smith (supporting actress).

The NBC Sports team received five nominations for its coverage of the Opening Ceremonies from the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 22. The Creative Arts Emmys will be held at the same venue on Sunday, Sept. 15.
