Deadline.com reports that Robert De Niro will develop a small screen adaptation of his 2006 film THE GOOD SHEPHERD. According to the report, the actor is currently working with the Showtime cable network on the project.
The Academy Award-winner served as director for the original movie in which he portrayed General William 'Bill' Sullivan.' The spy drama, which was based on actual events, centered on the origins of the counter-intelligence in the CIA. It co-starred Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie.
Eric Roth, who penned the film's script, will adapt the movie for television. DeNiro is expected to make his television directorial debut on the project.
The actor originally expressed an interest in directing a film sequel to The Good Shepherd, however it appears that the upcoming Showtime project will take precedence over a possible film follow-up.
