Rob Marshall, Steve Carell Among PALM SPRINGS FILM FEST Honorees

On Sunday, January 4, 2015 Variety honored Steve Carell, Rob Marshall, Chris Rock and 10 Directors to Watch at a brunch presented by Mercedes-Benz at the 2015 PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Some of the "10 Directors to Watch" including: Sean Baker (Tangerine), Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead (Spring), Ava DuVernay (Selma), Shlomi Elkabetz & Ronit Elkabetz (Gett, the Trial of Viviane Amsalem), Jeremy Garelick (The Wedding Ringer), Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler), Damian Szifron (Wild Tales), Leigh Whannell (Insidious: Chapter 3). Other guests included: Robert Duvall, Chaz Ebert, Jack Jones, Hal Linden, Fred Williamson, Michelle Sobrino (Variety), Claudia Eller (Variety), Steve Gaydos (Variety), Tim Gray (Variety), Darryl Macdonald (Festival Director), Helen du Toit (Artistic Director), Harold Matzner (Festival Chairman), and many others.

Variety and Julianne Moore presented Steve Carell with the Creative Impact Award in Acting Award, presented by Mercedes-Benz. Variety and Rosamund Pike presented Rob Marshall with the Creative Impact in Directing Award, presented by Mercedes-Benz. Variety and Richard Linklater presented Chris Rock with the Creative Impact in Comedy Award, presented by Mercedes-Benz. The awards celebrate the filmmaker, actor and comedian for their outstanding contributions to the art and business of cinema.

Additionally, Variety's "10 Directors to Watch" series was presented, spotlighting the most exciting new talents in the fields of directing. This year's "10 Directors to Watch" include five with films at Palm Springs International Film Festival: Gett: The Tiral of Viviane Ansallem, Wild Tales, Force Majeure, Spring, and Selma, the festivals Opening Night film. The event was presented by Mercedes-Benz and venue partner the Parker Palm Springs.
