Actress Rita Merson will be returning to New York to shoot her first short film "Bashert."

Merson has written, will produce and star in this tender, sometimes intense and always poignant story. "Bashert" in the Jewish culture literally translates to "intended spouse" or a destined love that was meant to be. Although this is Merson's first attempt at writing a screenplay, her interpretation of this age-old notion is both captivating and penetrating.

Merson hopes that "Bashert" will cast a bright light on the more ethereal, less secular side of the Jewish faith and the community that it encompasses.

Merson says, "Bashert comments on the two approaches to falling in love; the resistance and the surrender through the lens of Jewish Spirituality, the story is New York, its romantic, its Bashert".

Merson has been acting most of her life; she studied at the world famous Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, became a co-founder of New York City's Developing Artists Theatre Company, performed in "Brianna" at the Cherry Lane Theatre and recently completed a run of "A Woman: Two Channel Video", written by Daniel Freudenberger.

Additionally, Merson has performed in a number of off-Broadway productions and at the age of 18, Merson held the distinction of being directed by 15-time Oscar nominated actress Meryl Streep.

The film will also star the gifted and well established actor Trevor Wright ("Shelter") and will be produced by Jordan Yale Levine and Franco Sama, co-owners of Fylmar Productions in Beverly Hills, CA.

Among other things, Fylmar is known for the horror film "Tooth & Nail" starring Michael Madsen and Vinny Jones and the recently released French crime thriller "PAID" starring Corbin Bernsen, Tom Conti and Guy Marchand.

Levine, Sama and Fylmar will produce and begin principle photography on November 9th for the highly anticipated psychological thriller titled, "The Land of the Astronauts" which will star David Arquette, Vivica A. Fox and will feature Merson in a supporting role.

"Bashert" is scheduled to begin filming November 3, 2009 in New York City.
