A hard hitting look at what is known as the "Prescription Drug Epidemic", the award-winning documentary film Behind the Orange Curtain will be screened at The Ridgefield Playhouse tonight, October 29, at 7:30 p.m.
Prescription drug use, abuse, addiction and death are sweeping the United States. Drugs such as OxyContin, Xanax, and Opana are the latest "party drugs". Kids are experimenting as young as age 10, and many find their first dose right in THE FAMILY medicine cabinet. Heroin use and addiction have grown to epidemic proportions because users switch from prescription drugs to heroin, which is deemed cheaper and produces the same high. No one is exempt. This is a very real epidemic, which lies in every city, county, and state. A Q&A will follow the screening with Jamison Monroe, Elizabeth Driscoll Jorgensen, Zara Phillips and Jonathan Lowe.? This event is part of HamletHub's "A Whole New You Series" and is underwritten by Newport Academy.
The Behind the Orange Curtain documentary is the work of Newport Academy founder and CEO, Jamison Monroe, who has appeared on CNN, HLN, CBS, FOX, ABC and many other media outlets, where he regularly reports as an addiction and mental health correspondent. Joining Jamison is nationally recognized expert Elizabeth Driscoll Jorgensen, a psychotherapist who has 26 years of experience specializing in adolescent psychotherapy and substance abuse counseling. Jorgensen's expertise involves engaging resistant teens and motivating them to change.
