Richard Roeper to Take Roger Ebert's Place at the Chicago Sun-Times

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roger Ebert's former colleague and fellow critic Richard Roeper will take on the role of movie columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times.

Following complications with cancer, the acclaimed and legendary film critic Roger Ebert passed away on April 4, 2013, at the age of 70. The Pulitzer Prize winner had endured a battle with cancer in his thyroid and salivary glands which caused facial disfigurement and the inability to speak.

Ebert is known for his film review column (appearing in the Chicago Sun-Times since 1967, and later online) and for the television programs Sneak Previews, At the Movies with Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, and Siskel and Ebert and The Movies, all of which he co-hosted for a combined 23 years with Gene Siskel.

Roeper, who started working at the Chicago Sun-Times as a reporter in 1987, appeared with Ebert for eight years on their TV show Ebert and Roeper. He also guest-hosted Siskel & Ebert numerous times from 2000-2008, and sat in the main seat for Richard Roeper & the Movies in 2009-10.

Roeper will write reviews and host two weekly online video segments on Wednesdays and Fridays.
