Filmmaker Rich Wolgemuth will screen his recent narrative short film, award-winning THIS WORLD OF GHOSTS, at Heartland's Inaugural Indy Shorts International Film Festival, on July 27 and 29th at the Museum of Art at Newfields. The festival runs July 26- 29th. The film will be part of the "First Impressions" program.
Written and directed by Wolgemuth, the film deals with one man's journey to save the woman he loves from a pair of mysterious kidnappers - a journey that ultimately leads to a devastating revelation that changes the lives of everyone involved.
Wolgemuth is a writer/director whose work revels in a broad spectrum of human emotion. With thoughtful approach to craft, Rich has built a reputation as an actor's director who is part Alfred Hitchcock and part Richard Curtis. He is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago and UCLA's Screenwriting Program and is a veteran of the Chicago and Los Angeles entertainment scenes where he has directed for both the stage and screen. Currently, he is putting together his ?rst feature ?lm, a gritty historical thriller that takes a new and unique look at the bloody birth of Christianity.
"With 'This World of Ghosts' I wanted to make a film that was an exploration of love and memory; a film that explored nostalgia and how it creates this image of ourselves and the people around us," said Wolgemuth. "The ideas in the film, while seemingly so disparate, came together in a really interesting way. It's a real genre-bender and people have really been responding to it. Almost everyone who worked on the film really connected with the material and was able to find their voice in it. The collaboration was amazing, it really brought this piece to new heights."
Heartland Film, Inc. has announced an all-new film festival in support of its annual Heartland International Film Festival (HIFF - Oct. 11-21, 2018). Indy Shorts International Film Fest (Indy Shorts) will exclusively showcase short films (under 40 minutes in length) from July 26-29, 2018, at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields. HIFF just wrapped its 26th edition and experienced another year of seismic growth, with records set in the areas of film submissions, filmmaker attendance, and number of films programmed.
All short film categories and prizes associated with the Heartland International Film Festival will move to the annual Indy Shorts event, with all winners slated to play encore screenings at HIFF in the following October. An Academy Award-qualifying film festival in the Short Films category, HIFF's Best Narrative Short Film qualification category will move to Indy Shorts. The winner of this category will qualify for Academy Awards without the standard theatrical run, granted it meets all the other requirements needed to qualify. Short films featured at HIFF over the years have gone on to be short-listed, nominated, and winners of Academy Awards. Most recently, 2016 Official Selection "Sing" won the 2017 Academy Award for Live Action Short Subject.
THIS WORLD OF GHOSTS will screen on July 27th at 2PM and July 29th at noon at the Toby Screening Room, Museum of the Arts at Newfields, 4000 Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IND.
