The Marvel Studio/Columbia Pictures co-produced reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise and the sixteenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING follows Peter Parker as he tries to balance life as a high schooler and the being the hero Spider-Man as he faces the Vulture. The film is directed by Jon Watts, with a screenplay by the writing teams of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, Watts and Christopher Ford, and Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr. Set to be released on July 7th, 2017.

Let's see what the critics have to say:

John DeFore, Hollywood Reporter: "...occasionally exciting but often frustrating film, which seems to think the iconic character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko will appeal more to tech-addicted teens if only his costume has as many gizmos baked into it as Iron Man's."

Owen Gleiberman, Variety: "... the flying action has a casual flip buoyancy, and the movie does get you rooting for Peter. The appeal of this particular Spider-Boy is all too basic: In his lunge for valor, he keeps falling, and he keeps getting up."

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone: "News Flash: Tom Holland is the best movie Spider-Man ever. He finds the kid inside the famous red onesie and brings out the kid in even the most hardened filmgoer."

Tasha Robinson, The Verge: "Spider-Man: Homecoming brings the character back to his basics. In the process, it shows why he's always been such a popular draw, and it makes a strong argument for a branch of the MCU / Sony heroverse that operates on a smaller scale than the rest of the world. Here, the small size isn't just a story necessity, or a franchise strategy. It's the heart of the story, and an argument for smaller hero stories in general.

Soren Andersen, The Seattle Times: "This third time's the charm in Marvel's pantheon of Spider-Man portrayers. Tobey Maguire was pretty good, Andrew Garfield was so-so, but Holland ... Well, when you've got it, you've got it. Holland has it."

Leah Greenblatt, Entertainment Weekly: "....Homecoming comes off as loose and sweet and light on its feet as it does feels like sort of minor Marvel miracle"

Alex Abad-Santos, Vox: "The movie is a soaring, fearless teenage dream. And it feels so great to be able to say: Welcome home, Spidey"

Christopher Orr, The Atlantic: "Marvel demonstrates once again that it knows exactly what it's doing with one of its premier characters: Homecoming, starring Tom Holland in the titular role, is an utter gas, a fast and very funny superflick that inserts Spidey into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe without ever losing sight of what makes him unique and beloved."
