Liam Neeson will use his 'very particular set of skills' for the last time in TAKEN 3, the final installment of the TAKEN action-thriller series.
After being accused of murdering his wife, retired government agent Bryan Mills (Neeson) is faced with the task of clearing his name and avenging his wife's death. But with the FBI, CIA, and police forces on his trail, vengence won't come easily, and he once again may need to risk everything to protect his only daughter.
TAKEN 3 stars Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Forest Whitaker, Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott, and Sam Spruell.
Let's see what the critics had to say!
Maggie Lee, Variety: Without a doubt, the franchise gave the then-50-year-old Neeson a new lease on life as an action hero. Now in his 60s, the actor still has an imposing presence, but more often than not, he looks pretty beat and impatient to get things over with.
Clarence Tsui, Hollywood Reporter: Replacing the first two films' simplistic, man-on-the-run premise with a stuttering plot comparatively light on action and stuffed with red herrings and inconsequential characters...Besson's team has signed off the trilogy with a whimper rather than the kind of unfettered bang delivered by the first two films.
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian: It's difficult to know what subtitle to give this. Taken 3: Not Again, or Taken 3: Seriously? or Taken 3: This Is Getting a Bit Much Frankly.
Matt Patches, IGN: . A limp script and director Olivier Megaton's blistering style can't drown Liam Neeson's growl, as charismatic and old school tough as ever. Though nearly suffocated in close-ups, the actor's "special skills" shine.
Ali Plumb, Empire: While it wraps up the adventures of Bryan Mills with a neat bow, "the third and final installment" of the unexpected Taken trilogy makes it official: both you and Liam Neeson are too old for this sh**.
Alonso Duralde, The Wrap: Audiences the world over made Neeson an action star when they fell in love with his "particular set of skills" in the first "Taken," but this third go-round finds both cast and crew opting not to exercise any of them. Everyone involved seems to be determined to quash anyone's interest in a fourth chapter.
Robbie Collin, Telegraph: ...since the events here are wholly unrelated to the previous films, TAKEN 3 makes Bryan seem less like a reluctant hero pressed back into service one last time than just stunningly unfortunate.
Tom Huddleston, Time Out London: 'Taken 3' scores over its predecessor on almost every level: the stakes are higher, the LA locations are nicely photographed and, best of all, there's an actual plot, with twists and everything.
