According to UK's The Telegraph, Oscar-winning actor Jim Broadbent is set to take on the role of a talking trumpet in a relaunch of the 1990's BBC children show, TELETUBBIES which will feature an all-star cast.
Said Broadbent, "Teletubbies is truly a British institution and it's very exciting to be involved in bringing this global hit back to our TV screens. I'm really looking forward to working with the Teletubbies and giving them big hugs."
The 65-year-old actor will lend his voice to a trumpet that will make announcements in the show. He will be joined by Children in Need host Fearne Cotton, who commented, ""Teletubbies holds a special place in my heart so I'm honoured to be part of this well-loved TV show. As a mum, I am sure the new series will enthral a whole new generation of children across Britain and I will certainly be watching with my kids." Absolutely Fabulous star Jane Horrocks also lend her voice to show as the 'Tubby phone'. She commented, "I am very excited to be playing the Tubby Phone in the new series. The series has a whole new feel to it, I think it's hilarious, and it will appeal to adults as much as it does children."The BBC children's television series, targeted at pre-school viewers, launched in 1997 and aired through 2001. It was created by Ragdoll's creative director Anne Wood CBE and Andrew Davenport, who wrote each of the show's 365 episodes. The programme's original narrator was Tim Whitnall. Teletubbies was also aired internationally; in the United States, it was broadcast on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) public television from 6 April 1998 until 19 June 2005, and would continue to air reruns until 29 August 2008, when it was pulled from the schedule.
