Reality TV star and entrepreneur Bethenny Frankel tells CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH Charles Osgood she feels obligated to show the bad parts of her life as well as the good.
"You can't kind of say to the audience, 'Oh, I'm a fairy princess and I was just whisked off into the night on a horse,' and not tell them the rocky parts," Frankel tells
Tracy Smith. "I chose to share the highs. So I had to choose to share the lows."
Since a 2005 appearance on a reality competition TV show, Frankel has become a fixture in the media landscape, turning what could have been 15 minutes of fame into a business empire that spans TV shows, books and a trendy drink line. Her syndicated daytime talk show launches later this year.
"It was the best decision I ever made in my life," she tells Smith of getting into reality TV in a wide-ranging interview to be broadcast on
CBS SUNDAY MORNING on Jan. 13, 2013 (9:00 AM ET) on the
CBS Television Network.
Viewers have watched along as she's gotten married, had a baby, and struggled in her marriage.
"I had to take my audience on this journey," she says. "And I really didn't feel like holding that much back from them. Once you're on that train, it's really difficult to slow the train down." She admits, though, having her life played out on screen wasn't always easy. "It was part of the deal," she says. "You go to work and you do things at your office that you don't really want to do. And you roll your eyes and you get frustrated, and you know, that's what happens when you're on reality TV."
Frankel recently revealed she and her husband are getting a divorce.
She tells
CBS SUNDAY MORNING she feels a responsibility to talk to young girls about what marriage is really like. "You know, your whole life isn't going to be that fantasy fairy tale," she says. "And I say going in knowing that is definitely important."
Smith's interview with Frankel will be broadcast Jan. 13, 2013 on
CBS SUNDAY MORNING (9:00 AM, ET) on the
CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
