Despite recent rumors that Randy Jackson would be returning to FOX's AMERICAN IDOL in the role of a mentor for the upcoming 12th season, Deadline.com reports that he has just closed a deal with FOX to return as one of the singing competition's judges. According to the report, discussions over the deal went relatively quickly and smoothly due to the fact that the network already had an option on Jackson.
Recent rumors that Enrique Iglesias would also join the judges panel proved false after talks broke off with the singer. Sources close to the network revealed that financial reasons did not necessarily play a role in hampering negotiations.
After hearing the news of Jackson's return last night, former Idol judge Simon Cowell tweeted, “Just heard Randy is back on Idol. Right decision.” Jackson is a co-manager to new IDOL judge Mariah Carey and played a big role in bringing her to the show. Later this week it is expected that FOX will reveal the new four-person judging panel, which is rumored to include Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj.
