May Classics are 'Top of their Genres' on Reel 13 on THIRTEEN. This month's selections include some of the American Film Institute's best thriller, inspirational, courtroom and sports films.
Each of Reel 13's classic selections for the month of May has been recognized on one of the American Film Institute's iconic lists compiling the greatest films across a variety of genres.
The original version of Planet of the Apes came in at #59 out of the 100 best American thrillers (May 4). Rain Man was named among the "AFI's 100 Years...100 Cheers" most inspirational films (May 11). Witness for the Prosecution (May 18) and Hoosiers (May 25), were featured in the "Courtroom Drama" and "Sports" categories respectively on "AFI's 10 Top 10" (America's 10 greatest films in 10 classic genres).
Acclaimed indie films Beijing Bicycle (2002), You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (2010), The Company (2003), and Barney's Version (2010)round out theMay's Reel 13 Indie selections.
Every Saturday night beginning at 9 p.m., viewers can catch a Classic hosted by film historian Neal Gabler, followed by an Indie, hosted by Richard Peña. The evening concludes with a Short selected by visitors to Reel13.org who vote for their favorite of three shorts every week.
