Deadline reports that singer, actress Queen Latifah will be hosting her own daytime talk show, to be produced by her Production Company Flavor Unit, along with Shakim Compere, Will Smith and James Lassiter's Overbrook Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television. The talkfest will be executive produced by Compere and Overbrook's Miguel Melendez along with Queen Latifah, Overbrook's Lassiter, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Latifah began her career as a hip-hop singer prior to her acting and producing careers, both of which have earned her an Oscar nomination. The singer's first break was on NBC's The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, which starred fellow producer Smith. Latifah starred opposite Jada Pinkett Smith, in the 1996 movie, Set It Off.
Sony does not plan to produce a talk show for the fall 2012 season and instead has chosen to nurture Latifah's upcoming show, much as they did with The Dr. Oz Show, which has proven to be a ratings successs. Among talk shows set to debut in 2012 are those hosted by Katie Couric, StEve Harvey, Maury spin-off Trisha Goddard, Ricki Lake, Warner Bros' Bethenny Frankel and CBS TV Distribution's Jeff Probst.
A decade ago, Queen Latifah hosted a talk show which ran for two seasons. Her company, Flavor Unit, has launched two scripted series this year, Let's Stay Together on BET and Single Ladies on VH1, both of which have been renewed for a second season.
