Lin Evola, the artist behind the Peace Angels Project, will be the guest speaker at a fundraiser and champagne reception at the noted Silicon Valley-based Art Ventures Gallery on May 16th, 2018. Profits from the event will go towards the SILICON VALLEY Peace Monument, to be created by Evola.
New York-based Evola began the Peace Angels Project in 1992 as an active art project that invites people to donate weapons, a major public arts endeavor that focuses on creating sculptures to promote peace and fight against violence. Evola creates peace monuments - or "Peace Angels" - out of street weapons that are melted down and donated by law enforcement including the NYPD, the LASD, and the LAPD, in efforts to get guns off the street and use art to further her message of peace.
"Silicon Valley is very dear to my heart, and I am thrilled at the prospect of building a Peace Monument there," said Evola. "I am grateful to Art Ventures Gallery for hosting this fundraiser and helping bring my vision to life." Evola added: "The Silicon Valley/Bay Area Peace Monument will be a 64 foot peace sign within a TRANSPARENT globe, and will be the only monument that is kinetic. The globe will revolve with the earth. Carbon leeched from the atmosphere will be included to represent global warming. A monument to our future, e-waste is being considered as a part of this monument to peace."
The USA Weapons Destruction Campaign leads the initiative to garner destroyed weapons from law enforcement throughout the nation to produce the three monuments. Decommissioned, nuclear stainless steel is a primary component of the materials used in the first Peace Angel that will be prominently located. Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, and New York are the three monuments currently in process, and it is Evola's grand vision to create unique Peace monuments for host cities around the world.
Art Ventures Gallery represents Evola's work in Silicon Valley.
About the Peace Angels Project
In 1992, Lin Evola founded the Peace Angels Project to address the epidemic of violence by reminding us of the responsibilities we all share to create a better world. As an American contemporary Artist, Evola created the Peace Angels Project as a conceptual work of art to engage thought that is meant to stir us - to awaken us to RISE up and build a life affirming legacy of Peace in our time. The concept that develops into Peace Angel monuments forwards a legacy of peace to our children and future generations.
