Producer's Guild of America Announces First Round of T.V. Nominees: 'True Blood,' 'Mad Men,' & 'Idol' Favored

The Producer's Guild of America announced the nominees for the 2009 PGA Awards in The categories of Television Series and Non-fiction Television. The 21st annual awards ceremony will take place on January 24th at the Hollywood Palladium. 

The PGA Awards television categories include: Danny Thomas Producer of the Year Award in Episodic Television, Comedy; Norman Felton Producer of the Year Award in Episodic Television,
Drama; PGA Producer of the Year Award in Non-Fiction Television; and PGA Producer of the Year Award in Live Entertainment and Competition Television.

In the running for television series winners are NBC's "30 Rock" and AMC's "Mad Men." 

In the comedy category, "30 Rock" goes up against "Californication" and "Weeds," in addition to HBO's "Entourage" and NBC's "The Office." "30 Rock" has won the trophy for two straight years.

in the drama category, "Mad Men" is paired against AMC's "Breaking Bad," Showtime's "Dexter," ABC's "Lost" and HBO's "True Blood," which was surprisingly ignored by the Emmys. 

Showtime garnered four of the twenty nominations announced today..

Up in the non-fiction category are CBS's "60 Minutes," Discovery's "The Deadliest Catch," A&E's "Intervention," Bravo's "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the ‘D' List" and Showtime's "This American Life." "60 Minutes" won the award for 2008.

In the live entertainment competition category, nominations went to CBS's "The Amazing Race," Fox's "American Idol," Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report," Lifetime's "Project Runway" and Bravo's "Top Chef." "The Colbert Report" is the most recent winner of The category.

Nominations for PGA Awards in the Theatrical Motion Picture and Longform Television categories will be announced on January 5, 2010, along with the individual producers in all categories. The winners in each category will be announced at the PGA Awards ceremony on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Hollywood Palladium.

The Producers Guild of America is the non-profit trade group that represents, protects and promotes the interests of all members of the producing team in film, television and new media. The PGA has over 4,000 members who work together to protect and improve their careers, the
