NBCSN's Major League Soccer coverage this weekend features the Portland Timbers hosting the LA Galaxy on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET, immediately following NBCSN's coverage of Premier League "Championship Sunday."
Sunday is the first meeting between Portland and Los Angeles this season. The Galaxy are led by U.S. Men's National Team midfielder Landon Donovan, who looks to become MLS' all-time leading goal scorer (his 134 career goals is tied for the record with Jeff Cunningham), while the Timbers forward Gastón Fernández (4 goals this season) will be instrumental in a Timbers victory at home.
COMMENTATORS:
NBC Sports Group's lead play-by-play announcer John Strong calls the match joined by former MLS midfielder Brian Dunseth and host Russ Thaler.
Strong on Portland Timbers vs LA Galaxy: "This is just about as good a matchup as you could hope to not only come out of Premier League 'Championship Sunday,' but also to lead into the World Cup break. Landon Donovan continues to be one goal away from the all-time MLS record, and with speculation about whether or not he'll even be in Brazil with the U.S., all eyes will be on how he plays in his final game before USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann announces the 30-man preliminary squad. The Portland Timbers finally broke through with their first win of the season last weekend, and with the Timbers Army at Providence Park in full voice behind them, they look to kick-start a run back up the standings."
