NBC continues its NFL Playoff coverage this Sunday, Jan. 15, at 1 p.m. ET with an AFC Divisional Round matchup, when Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers (AFC North, 12-5) visit Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs (AFC West, 12-4) at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. NBC's NFL Divisional coverage on Sunday begins at Noon ET with a special edition of Football Night In America.
The Steelers carry an eight-game winning streak into Kansas City this Sunday, including a 30-12 win against the Miami Dolphins in their AFC Wild Card game last weekend in Pittsburgh. Roethlisberger threw two touchdown passes to WR Antonio Brown, while RB Le'Veon Bell rushed for 167 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Kansas City earned a first-round bye after finishing the regular season with a 12-4 record, their best result since 2003 (13-3). The Chiefs have won five of their last six games heading into the postseason, including wins over a pair of division foes (Denver and San Diego) in Weeks 16 and 17. Kansas City finished the regular season tied for the league lead in defensive touchdowns (5) and interceptions (18), and tied for third in forced fumbles (19). TE Travis Kelce led all tight ends with 1,125 receiving yards, and boasts 100-plus receiving yards in five of his last seven games.
This is the second meeting of the season between the Steelers and Chiefs. In Week 4, Roethlisberger threw for 300 yards and five touchdowns in the Steelers' 43-14 victory in Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football. The Steelers own a 21-10 advantage in the all-time series with the Chiefs. Kansas City won the only postseason meeting between the two teams, a 27-24 overtime win in the 1993 AFC Wild Card round, which was called by seven-time Emmy Award-winner Al Michaels.
Michaels, who is in his record 31st season as THE VOICE of the NFL's premier primetime package, handles play-by-play for Steelers-Chiefs, alongside 16-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth. They will be joined by two-time Emmy Award-winning sideline reporter Michele Tafoya and sideline reporter Heather Cox.
NBC's coverage of Sunday Night Football is led by Emmy Award-winning producer Fred Gaudelli and Emmy Award-winning director Drew Esocoff.
Football Night in America, the most-watched studio show in sports, is hosted by Bob Costas, who will report from Arrowhead Stadium. Dan Patrick will host from NBC Sports Group's International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Conn., and will be joined by Hall of Fame head coach Tony Dungy, two-time SUPER BOWL champion Rodney Harrison and Mike Florio of NBC Sports' ProFootballTalk.
