Ottawa took Game 1 by a score of 2-1 in overtime on Saturday night in Pittsburgh to improve to 6-1 in overtime during the 2017 postseason. Bobby Ryan assisted on the Senators' first goal in the first period, and netted the game-winner on a breakaway 4:59 into overtime. Ryan totaled 25 points in 62 games this season (13g/12a), but has already posted 11 points in 13 games in the playoffs (5g/6a).
Evgeni Malkin scored the only goal for Pittsburgh and now has 148 career postseason points, moving him ahead of Jaromir Jagr for third on the Penguins all-time list. Ottawa has held Pittsburgh to one goal in each of their last three meetings dating back to the regular season, and has won each of those games.
