The Toronto International Film Festival is in full swing, continuing through September 14, 2014. A total of 393 films are scheduled to be shown, including 143 world premieres. Below, BroadwayWorld brings you photos from the red carpet arrivals for THE GOOD LIE.
An American woman (Reese Witherspoon) takes four refugees from the Sudanese civil war under her wing, in this hotly anticipated, based-on-fact drama from Monsieur Lazhar director Philippe Falardeau.
The story of Sudan's "Lost Boys" is one of the most compelling in the past century's ongoing struggle with migration. In his follow-up to the Academy Award-nominatedMonsieur Lazhar, director Philippe Falardeau follows survivors of Sudan's civil war as they struggle to forge new lives in a strange land - so strange that it includes characters like Carrie Davis (Reese Witherspoon, who also stars at this year's Festival in Jean-Marc Vallee's Wild).
To the ordinary American, Carrie looks perfectly normal. Her personal life is a shambles but she's good at her job. She's not married, but she finds the company she needs when she needs it. She's practical. But to the three Sudanese men fresh off a plane from a refugee camp, she may be the strangest creature they've ever seen. She's also their best chance.
The Toronto International Film Festival has become the launching pad for the best of international, Hollywood and Canadian cinema, and is recognized as the most important film festival after Cannes. TIFF is dedicated to presenting the best of international and Canadian cinema to film lovers. What began as a ten-day film festival has grown to embrace programming 365 days a year. TIFF offers screenings, lectures, discussions, festivals, workshops, industry support and the chance to meet filmmakers from Canada and around the world. In September 2010, the opening of our new home, TIFF Bell Lightbox, enabled TIFF to expand to truly become a creative, community and global leader, and one of the world's premiere organizations in the discovery and understanding of film.
