Edward Burns Actor/Director and Long Island native was honored with the 2012 Artist of Distinction Award for achievement in film by the Gold Coast International Film Festival last night.
Born in Woodside, Queens, Mr. Burns was raised in Valley Stream,. He began his career as production assistant to Oliver Stone on the film, The Doors. Later, while cutting his teeth on stale bagels, and running for coffee at Entertainment Tonight, he wrote, produced, directed and starred in The Brothers McMullen which premiered at Sundance in 1995 and won the the prestigious Grand Jury Prize. It was shot almost entirely on Long Island. His most recent production, The Fitzgerald Family Christmas, was screened in Port Washington last night, and Mr. Burns spoke extensively about the film to the Gold Coast audience prior to the reception held at The Waterfront At Roslyn.
