In June, BroadwayWorld launched Season 2 of the popular webseries THE RESIDUALS. The comedy, from husband-and-wife team Michael Paul Smith and Gillian Pensavalle, centers on the ridiculous world commercial acting.
Since the show debuted in 2014, it has garnered national attention from comedy websites, podcasts, the Chicago Tribune, and now Backstage.
In the article, Pensavalle discusses what gave her the confidence to take on editing the show, despite not having any experience. "I speak computer pretty well. I just thought, We'll FIGURE IT OUT as we go. I'll just learn how to do it. How hard can it be? It's difficult," she said. "There's a reason there are 45 million people on a film or TV set-because everyone has one job. But we do all of them."
Even though THE RESIDUALS is a show about auditions, Smith says that they haven't had to do any, despite bringing in stars like Horatio Sanz (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE), Jenna Leigh Green (SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH, Broadway's WICKED), and commercial-acting legend Michael Torpey for Season 2. "As much as I'd love to be on the other side of the table," Smith says, "even if we had auditions, I think I'd want to just talk and get a sense of these people. Do you want to spend eight hours in a row with this person?"
THE RESIDUALS release new episodes on Tuesday afternoons, and outtakes on Thursdays. Check out the entire season here.
