Breaking Glass Pictures/QC Cinema and Tall Skinny Black Boy Productions have closed the deal to release THE SKINNY, the latest film from Patrik-Ian Polk, director of Sundance favorite Punks and creator of Logo's popular series "Noah's Arc" and the award-winning film Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom. The film will be available on DVD December 11th (SRP $24.99).
The Skinny is a sharply scripted comedy about a group of four young black gay men and their lesbian best friend. They arrange to meet up in New York City one year after their graduation from Brown University. Their plans for a weekend of fun start off well, relaxed in each other's company as only old friends can be. But old tensions quickly resurface. Drinking, drugs, hidden desire and the demands of promiscuity put friendship, trust and even lives at risk.
The film had its world premiere at the Outfest Fusion Film Festival in March, where Polk received the 2012 Fusion Achievement Award from filmmaker
Lee Daniels, before embarking on a successful theatrical release across the United States. Polk is currently in pre-production on his next film, a coming-of-age drama set in Mississippi based on the novel "Blackbird" by Larry Duplechan.
"Breaking Glass Pictures is a wonderful company," Polk said. "I've known them for years and am thrilled to finally get the opportunity to work together. The Skinny is the first movie I've done completely as an independent producer, without the benefit of a big-name
Production Company or network behind me - so I'm thrilled to be working with Breaking Glass to bring this project to a larger audience."
Breaking Glass Co-President
Richard Ross went on to say, "We think of Patrik as both a friend and an amazingly talented writer-director. The Skinny is bursting with his special brand of wit and wisdom - it's really a fantastic film."
Jussie Smollett heads the cast in his first role since 1995. The former child star (Mighty Ducks) was last onscreen in the television series "On Our Own" with his siblings, including sister Jurnee Smollett ("Friday Night Lights"). His co-stars include Blake Young-Fountain,
Anthony Burrell, Shanika Warren-Markland, and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman. "Noah's Arc" stars
Darryl Stephens (Logo's new series "DTLA"),
Wilson Cruz ("Grey's Anatomy") and Jennia Fredrique appear in supporting roles.
The DVD will arrive complete a director's commentary, deleted scenes, behind the scenes footage and much more.
