'Spartacus' Director Michael Hurst to Direct THE VIKING WARS

Director/actor Michael Hurst, who most recently directed television series Spartacus: War of the Damned for Starz, is returning to action adventure as director of THE VIKING WARS for Cardinal XD; it was announced today by Jeff Goldman, Cardinal XD Chief Content Officer.

Set to begin production in New Zealand in late 2014, THE VIKING WARS vividly portrays the battles of a ragtag band of Vikings whose homeland is invaded by an army led by the tyrannical Charles the Fat. The Vikings launch a surprise invasion of France and join forces with local Parisian rebels to help free an oppressed city.

Executive producer and distributor Cardinal XD will present the film when the company makes its debut as a first-time exhibitor at the Marché du Film at Cannes. In addition to The Viking Wars, Cardinal is presenting a slate of more than 20 family, comedy, horror, action, sci-fi and factual films, documentaries and series at Cannes. The slate includes Blood Reef, a high-action feature directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith (Absolute Deception, BMX Bandits, and the upcoming Drive Hard).The film is now in pre-production for release in 2015.

Copenhagen, a romance adventure directed by multi award-winning Mark Raso (Under, Grey) is winner of the 2014 Slamdance Film Festival Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature, Gasparilla International Film Festival Grand Jury Award for Best Feature Film, and Florida Film Festival Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature.

Story of Luke, starring Seth Green, Cary Elwes and Lou Taylor Pucci, is a comedic drama about a young autistic man's quest to find a job and true love. The film has been a festival favorite, with 17 wins including Best Feature Awards in 2013 at the Garden State Film Festival, Bahamas International Film Festival, San Francisco Indiefest, San Luis Obispo International Film Festival and Sudbury Cinéfest, among others.
