Sources tell Variety that Jonathan Krisel, co-creator and director of "Portlandia," will direct the live-action "Sesame Street" film for Warner Bros. According to sources, the film will be a musical.
Mike Rosolio wrote the first draft of the film's script. Chris Galletta wrote the most recent draft and is still working. with Shawn Levy and Michael Aguilar producing. Jesse Ehrman is shepherding it for Warner Bros. Sesame Workshop holds the rights to the show and will be involved in the development of the project.
"Sesame Street" is an educational series that features a combination of live-action and puppetry, as well as animation. It is best known as the home of the Jim Henson creations Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, and Elmo.
The film will be Krisel's first major studio movie since he began working on "Portlandia."
