PITCH PERFECT writer Kay Cannon and her producing partner Laverne McKinnon have inked a first-look deal with Sony Pictures Television, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Under the deal, the Sony Pictures TV will have first-look rights to new TV comedies and dramas created by Cannon and McKinnon via their K&L Productions banner.
Cannon and McKinnon met on GIRLBOSS, the Netflix show that Cannon created and served as showrunner for. They later formed K&L Productions. Together, their goal is to explore underserved stories in comedy and drama.
Cannon made her directorial debut with the recent film BLOCKERS and she wrote PITCH PERFECT. Cannon previously had an overall deal with 20th Century FOX TV.
McKinnon is the former executive vice president of originals at EPIX and was the senior vice president for drama development at CBS.
