America loves the Barden Bellas now even more than they did three years ago.
Variety reports that PITCH PERFECT 2 has not only surpassed $100 million since its opening last weekend, but it has also surpassed the original film's gross, as well as Disney's expected blockbuster, TOMORROWLAND. Early predictions say that the a capella sequel will reach $125 by the end of Memorial Day weekend, whereas the big-budget TOMORROWLAND will see just over $41 million.
PITCH PERFECT 2 debuted at $69.2 million for its opening weekend, whereas PITCH PERFECT debuted at $65 million. Thus, PITCH PERFECT 2 now has the top musical opening of all time, and the second-best PG-13 rated film debut as well.
For director and co-star Elizabeth Banks, this marks the best feature film directorial debut ever and the second-biggest film directed by a woman, right behind FIFTY SHADES OF GREY.
Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and countless celebrity cameos are back in the comedy-musical sequel PITCH PERFECT 2. The film was directed by Elizabeth Banks who stars as the character Gail in the original PITCH PERFECT as well as PITCH PERFECT 2.
PITCH PERFECT 2 takes us right into the action as the Bellas are humiliated in front of an entire audience including the President of the United States at a performance in theLINCOLN Center. To regain their status and the right to perform, the Bellas entire an international competition that no American team has ever won. With new friends and old rivals tagging along for the trip, the Bellas can either sink or swim on their way to redemption.
