'Tis a Shakespeare takeover today as the recently launched PBS Arts website posts a new exhibition, "Two Tragedies: Shakespeare's Hamlet and Macbeth," exclusively on www.pbs.org/arts. The multimedia exhibition showcases full versions of the Bard's Hamlet featuring Patrick Stewart as Claudius, and a sneak preview of Stewart's stunning performance in Macbeth, which airs October 6 on PBS stations.
The PBS Arts exhibit also offers a behind-the-scenes featurette about the making of Hamlet, interviews with Stewart, and even a 2007 PBS NewsHour story in which Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and other well-known legal minds stage a trial of Hamlet with 'evidence' from the play.
The PBS Arts website debuted last month, providing a new online platform to bring the arts home to millions of Americans. Anchored by "virtual exhibitions" curated from PBS's archives as a museum curates its own collection, the site also features original content commissioned from a wide variety of producers and web-only content connected to current PBS shows. Upcoming exhibitions will include exclusive content from fall PBS series "Circus," "LennonNYC," and more.
"Two Tragedies" is available now on pbs.org/arts.
