Oxygen Media is giving the greenlight to the new original doc-comedy series UNPROTECTED, about a family leaving the witness protection program to start a new life, and is ordering an all new season of the hit series BAD GIRLS CLUB, pitting Bad Girls from the East Coast versus Bad Girls from the West Coast, it was announced today by Rod Aissa, Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Development, Oxygen Media. Production is already underway for both series and each are set to premiere in 2017. Joining the recently launched "Strut," and the upcoming competition series "The Battle of the Ex-Besties" and "Last Squad Standing" premiering this quarter, the two moves further expand the network's commitment to programming for millennial women.
"'Unprotected' brings our viewers the ultimate fish out of water comedy series that's like nothing else on television," said Aissa, "We're excited to bring the show to the network, along with a new season of 'BGC,' which after 16 seasons simply keeps getting better and better."
In the half-hour doc-comedy "Unprotected," viewers will follow the Cantarellas, a family raising two teenagers, who have left the witness protection program to settle into the very suburban and retiree lifestyle of their new hometown of Scottsdale, AZ. Over the course of the season, viewers will see them adapting to their unfamiliar surroundings and trying to reform their old ways, but all the while staying true to themselves. From running a legit family business to making new friends, the Cantarellas are putting their wayward past behind them and learning how to live life in the burbs.
In the all new season of BGC, the network looks to the coasts for the newest crop of Bad Girls. "Bad Girls Club: East Meets West," will show fans that not all Bad Girls are created equal, and they have very different ways of handling their business when dueling over style and territory. Viewers will find out just how different they are when Bad Girls from the East Coast arrive in Los Angeles to live and party with Bad Girls from the West Coast.
Behind the success of the current season of BGC in the Tuesday 8pm slot, Oxygen ranks #1 among ad-supported cable entertainment networks in F18-34, making it the youngest women's network on Tuesdays in primetime. Year-to-date, BGC is also a top ten ad-supported cable entertainment program on VOD with more than 10MM set-top-box VOD transactions. In addition, Oxygen Digital just enjoyed it's best month ever in September, up 24% (4.4MM) in visits and up 21% (3MM) in unique visitors versus September 2015.
