Stand Up To Cancer Canada, which launched on July 9, 2014, has two pan-Canadian "Dream Teams" of top researchers:
In Canada, 83 percent of all cancer cases and 78 percent of all cancer deaths are from cancers included in the SU2C research portfolio. Two out of five Canadians are expected to develop cancer during their lifetimes. Cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada and is responsible for 30 percent of all deaths.
This year's Stand Up To Cancer roadblock telecast the fifth since SU2C, the US-based initiative, was founded in 2008 will feature performances from top recording artists, along with celebrities from film and television, and powerful stories of remarkable progress being made through SU2C-funded research.
This star-studded appeal will continue to build public support to accelerate the pace of groundbreaking translational research that can get new therapies to patients quickly, saving lives and helping more cancer patients become long-term cancer survivors. SU2C brings together scientists from different disciplines across institutions and international boundaries to work collaboratively on promising new treatments that will impact a wide range of cancer types.
The first four SU2C telecasts took place on September 5, 2008, September 10, 2010, September 7, 2012, and September 5, 2014 and were made available to more than 190 countries. The first Canadian-inclusive SU2C telecast aired in 2014.

In addition to MLB, SU2C's "Visionary" donors include Bristol-Myers Squibb; Cancer Treatment Centers of America; Genentech, a member of the Roche Group; MasterCard; and The Sidney Kimmel Foundation. Major donors and collaborators include American Airlines, American Cancer Society, CVS Health, Fifth Third Bank, The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, Merck, and Rally Health. Other key supporters and collaborators include Cancer Research Institute, Cancer Research UK, Dutch Cancer Society, Farrah Fawcett Foundation, The Laura Ziskin Family Trust, Lilly Oncology, Melanoma Research Alliance, National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, The Parker Foundation, Prostate Cancer Foundation, St. Baldrick's Foundation and Van Andel Research Institute.
