Ovation, America's only arts network, is set to premiere One Man's Trash, an original special event about artists who turn trash into treasure. The hour-long program features various artists from Portland, Oregon competing in an eco-artistic challenge. One Man's Trash kicks off tonight, May 21 at 10 p.m. ET, only on Ovation.
Ovation's audience will meet six outspoken, quirky artists as they travel from junkyard to recycling center collecting the pieces they'll use to create their best artistic works. Two teams of talented, creative, adventurous artists compete against each other, relying on nothing but their creativity to turn trash into works of art.
One Man's Trash is hosted by illustrator and actor-comedian Kevin Christy (Masters of Sex), who will also judge the competition along with Portland's WhiteSpace Gallery owner Jeffrey Miller and Washed Ashore Project owner and lead recyclable artist Angela Haseltine Pozzi.
"It's fascinating to see what someone with artistic ability can do in a competitive environment," noted Ovation SVP of Programming and Production, Scott Woodward. "At Ovation, we believe that art is everywhere. This show epitomizes that simple notion to a T. You'll be amazed at the truly beautiful pieces these artists are able to create with discarded items with the clock ticking. It'll make you think again about what you're throwing out."
The contestants are judged on four different criteria: artistic merit, creativity, implementation of recycled material, and how well
The Challenge is addressed. The winning team is awarded a spot in Jeffrey Miller's WhiteSpace Gallery to display its winning piece. Each team receives 15% of the profits from the sale of the art with the rest going to charity.
