The science behind the 'Galaxy far far away' is coming to San Diego Comic-Con. Assembling an esteemed panel of NASA scientists, psychologists, film production experts and Star Wars superfans, Outerplaces.com hosts its second "Science of Star Wars" event in San Diego Comic-Con's Room 24ABC at 8:30pm on Saturday 11th July.

Panelists confirmed for the event include:

  • Emily Manor-Chapman (NASA Mission Planner)
  • Travis Langley (Editor of "Star Wars Psychology")
  • Fon Davis (Production Designer on Star Wars prequel trilogy)
  • Kieran Dickson (Editor of Outerplaces.com)

"Since the first film in 1977, Star Wars has shown us a galaxy filled with awe-inspiring science and technology," said NASA Mission Planner, Emily Manor-Chapman. "At the same time, there have been amazing advancements in space exploration and robotics - from the discovery of Kepler-16b, a planet orbiting two stars like Tatooine, to the Curiosity rover exploring Mars. It's fun to look at how our science and technology compare to that of Star Wars."

During the event, panelists will discuss topics such as which Star Wars technologies are actually possible, whether science fact plays into the creation of a Star Wars spacecraft, and what it would take to wield a lightsaber without slicing your own hand off. Our panel of experts will then open the floor to questions from the audience, giving Star Wars fans a chance to have their burning questions answered by those in the know.
