The Stella Adler Studio of Acting and the Rose M. Singer Center at Rikers Island will host a performance of movement, poetry and monologues by women inmates from the Rose M. Singer Center today, December 3, from 12 PM to 2 PM. Kate Mulgrew, an avid supporter and board member of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK cast member, will be on hand to discuss the outreach program.
Over 20 female inmates received theater training as part of this program by the Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Outreach Division. The three-month training program focused on core voice and speech techniques, movement, poetry and monologues.
Started in 2004, the Stella Adler Outreach Division brings theater and arts training to underserved populations and is dedicated to actively addressing today's social injustices, including issues related to incarceration and recidivism.
It all takes place at the Rose M. Singer Center, Rikers Island, 19-19 Hazen Street East Elmhurst, NY 11370.
